24” 4K XVS Monitor

 

Viewpoint Systems has received confirmation from NASA that the specially developed 24” 4K XVS (eXternal Visibility System) Monitor has passed all low boom flight demonstration testing for implementation in the X-59 QueSST low sonic boom aircraft which will serve as the next evolution of supersonic flight, bringing the hope of commercial supersonic travel closer to being a reality.

 After vigorous testing and communication with engineers at Langley Research Center, Viewpoint released the 4K XVS Display which will lead the way in rugged displays used in new and constantly evolving aerospace applications. These applications will involve some of the most extreme environments seen by the aerospace/military community and are easily conquered with a Viewpoint display.

Because of this new aircrafts’ unique shape and capabilities, there will not be a front facing window, creating a flight experience unlike any other and forcing the pilot to rely on camera guidance to operate the aircraft safely. The 4K XVS Viewpoint monitor allows the pilot to safely see the flight path and while also providing useful data about airports, takeoffs, landings, and other fundamental information. The XVS monitor will take in data from two external, high definition cameras.

These flights will be used to test community reactions. Once this data is collected, it will be presented to the U.S. and international regulators to begin the conversation on reinstating commercial supersonic flights over land, which have been prohibited since the days of the Concorde.

The X-59 will be produced by Lockheed Martin after NASA awarded a $247.5 million contract for design, construction, and delivery. Since 2016, Martin and NASA have worked energetically to finish design and testing.

Viewpoint was an obvious first choice for the engineers at the Langley Research Center in part due to a long relationship implementing rugged video monitors on the International Space Station.
